Fourth Wall Ensemble is rapidly gaining recognition as one of New York’s most innovative new vocal ensembles. The group’s performances have been praised for achieving “near musical perfection” with a sound that feels “otherworldly,” and evoking a “palpable fearlessness.” The ensemble is devoted to storytelling through sound and movement, bringing new works to life while also delving into the earliest traditions of vocal music.

Founded in 2023, Fourth Wall Ensemble’s recent and upcoming highlights include performances at Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall at The Kaufman Music Center, a collaboration with Death of Classical featuring works by Monteverdi and Caroline Shaw’s Partita for 8 Voices, a series at Power Station at Berklee NYC, and a residency at Avaloch Farm Music Institute. The group’s debut album, created in partnership with GRAMMY® Award-winning trio Time for Three and five-time EMMY® Award-winning composer Jeff Beal (House of Cards), marked a significant milestone for the ensemble. In 2025, the group will release Fourth Wall: Live from Power Station, a live-recorded album featuring instrumentalist Stuart Bogie.

The ensemble is led by Artistic and Creative Director Christopher Allen, an award-winning conductor, alongside Executive Director and producer Johnathan McCullough.

"As led by Christopher Allen, each member sang with disarming character and color; together they harmonized with conviction and instinctual flair.”

About Fourth Wall Ensemble

Fourth Wall Ensemble is a vocal group based in New York City dedicated to storytelling through sound and movement. We bring new works to life, while simultaneously exploring the earliest roots of vocal music.

We are creators and collaborators, producing events encompassing live vocals, storytelling, dance, film, visual arts, and classical music. We are passionate about exploring the fourth wall; the space that exists between artists and audiences.

Fourth Wall is an inclusive organization that is committed to its audience as well as it’s artists. We believe in equitable pay (with a goal to provide salaried positions in future seasons) as well as health and child care support. We seek to create an environment where vocal artists can thrive.
